The lockout at the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra finally ended Wednesday, January 16, 2008 after being in effect for 65 days. The Jacksonville Symphony Association and Jacksonville Symphony Players’ Association finally reached an agreement that provides for a five-year contract. Effective immediately, the musicians’ employment was reinstated and the concert season will resume. For more information, please visit their websites at www.jaxsymphony.org and www.jsomusicians.org. Congratulations to both sides on finally reaching an agreement! This has been a tough time for all involved, and it is great to finally have the musicians back on stage.

A lockout at the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra has been in effect since November 13, 2007 due to unresolved contract negotiations between the Jacksonville Symphony Association and the Musicians’ Union. Since then, many concerts have been cancelled and the orchestra musicians currently remain unemployed by the Association. Nevertheless, the musicians have still continued to provide music through several benefit concerts they have hosted. On Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the University of North Florida, Recital Hall, Alexei Romanenko and Sofia Every (Principal and Assistant Principal Cellist in the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, respectively) will be performing works by several composers in a concert titled “Music of Our Time”. In addition, these outstanding musicians will be premiering a composition by Andrew Chopra titled “Music for Two Cellos”. Please come out and support this event as it is sure to be an exciting concert!
