Dies Irae "The Day of Wrath" (2005 - Jacksonville University Percussion Ensemble Version)

(Andrew Chopra)
2005-11-07
The music of this composition was commissioned and composed in the early part of the year 2005 for the Jacksonville University Percussion Ensemble in Jacksonville, Florida. The lyrics come from the Roman Missal and are thought to be written by Thomas of Celano during the 13th century. The Dies Irae is written in Latin and was commonly used in many requiem masses. Essentially, it is a prayer that represents the Last Judgment in which Christ will come again to judge humankind. This recording is from Andrew Chopra's Junior Music Composition Recital at the Jacksonville University Terry Concert Hall on April 16, 2005. It was performed by the Jacksonville University Percussion Ensemble for the second time. The following performers participated: Jacksonville University Percussion Ensemble: Jamie Best, timpani; Kym Dixon, percussion 1; Walter Hill, percussion 2; Sam Williams, percussion 3; Shaun Bennett, percussion 4; Brandon Nix, glockenspiel, chimes; Jonah Pierre, marimba; Amy Chapman, vibraphone; Bonita Bunt, soprano; Samuel Welsh, piano; Prof. Tony Steve, conductor.
